WHY HAVE A HEALTH CHECK?

It is estimated that over 60% of today's most  common diseases are linked to the way we live our lives. It is important to understand the  consequences of our actions on our bodies, as many of these diseases are preventable. Having a particular aspect of your health and wellbeing measured means that you can decide  which improvements you would like to make to your lifestyle and monitor the impact of those changes on your health and that of your family.

USING THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY
We have invested in the latest screening equipment to ensure results are accurate and reliable.
All  equipment provides results in under 3 minutes so you can get peace of mind immediately.
The same analysers are extensively used by hospitals, doctors and dieticians, universities, occupational health departments and leisure facilities throughout the UK and Europe.
It is not always possible to compare results from  different methods of testing as machines use different protocols  to calculate results.  Being assessed by the same machine will ensure you track any change in your health as accurately as  possible.

CHOLESTEROL
7 OUT OF 10 PEOPLE OVER THE AGE OF 40 HAVE HIGH CHOLESTEROL
High cholesterol is a major cause of heart disease in the UK and is responsible for over half of all heart related deaths.  7 out of 10 people over the age of 40 have cholesterol above the recommended levels and 65% of people have never had it measured.  However, cholesterol is not all BAD.
What is Cholesterol?
Cholesterol is a fatty substance found in the blood.  It is mainly manufactured by the body but is also obtained from the fatty foods we eat.  Cholesterol is made up of both ‘good’ and ‘bad’ cholesterol and it is important to know how much you have of each type.  The levels of ‘bad’ cholesterol rise and the levels of ‘good’ cholesterol fall the more     saturated fats you eat.  Too much ‘bad’ cholesterol and not enough ‘good’ cholesterol increases your risk of coronary heart disease.
How is it measured?

How is it Measured ?
A quick and simple test can determine whether you have high cholesterol.  We are also able to measure the amount of ‘good’ cholesterol present.  The test requires only a    pinprick of blood.
The blood is collected in a small tube  and put onto a test strip.  The results are available in under 2 minutes.  Your results will be entered onto a fact sheet and explained.

DIABETES

THERE ARE AN ESTIMATED 1 MILLION UNDIAGNOSED DIABETICS IN THE UK DIABETES
There are over 1.4 million diabetics in the UK and around a further million people who have the disease and dont know it!
AM I AT RISK?
There has been a significant increase in Type 2 diabetes in both adults and, more alarmingly, children which is directly related to obesity and lack of exercise.  Diabetes eventually causes problems to the major organs of the body and can lead to serious illnesses including:
Heart Disease, Kidney disease, Limb Amputation, Blindness
HOW IS IT MEASURED?

A quick and simple test can determine whether you are diabetic. The test requires only a pinprick of blood. The blood is colected in a small tube and put onto a test strip. The results are available in under 1 minute. Your results will be entered onto a fact sheet and then explained.
